WHAT IS A GREAT FATHER                                                                   FBC-PC 6-16-91; 6-15-14 AM

 

Intro: Some believe that all a father needs to be is a good provider of basic needs – security, protection, love and lots of presents.

THEOLOGY OF THE FAMILY “‘God in His eternal purposes, in accordance with His Divine Nature and His good pleasure,
willed to create and have dwell with Him personal beings created in His image who would reflect His glorious nature.”
Eph. 1:3-12; Gen. 1:26-27; Isa. 43:1, 7, 16, 21…so He created man.

Then God created woman and gave her to him. Gen. 2:21-25

 In Christ we find out what a true husband / father should be.

 THE BIBLE TEACHES THE FATHER / HUSBAND IS A… - Gen. 18:19

 I. PRIEST Eph. 6:4

A. He Prays for his family

B. He Teaches his family

 II. LOVER

A. He Loves God – I John 4:7-21

B. He Loves His wife – Eph. 5:21-32

C. He Loves His Children –

D. He Loves the Lost and Others –

III. DISCIPLINER Prov. 29:15,17; Prov. 3:12; Heb. 12:5-11

A. Instruction Should Precede Discipline – Prov. 6:20; II Tim. 3:16-17

B.Love should follow – Prov. 23:13; Prov. 22:15; Prov. 13:24

C. Discipline for profit not anger – Prov. 19:18; II Tim. 3:17; Heb. 12:11

 IV. GOOD EXAMPLE

A. He is holy – I Peter 2:9; 1:14-16

B. He is Fruitful – Col. 1:9-12

C. He is Good and Just – Titus 2:12

D. He is Christ like (Christian) in All Things – I Tim. 4:12
